Definition & Indications
A dental veneer is a thin layer of restorative material bonded to the facial surface of anterior teeth. Indications include:
· Masking intrinsic stains
· Closing diastemas
· Correcting minor malalignment, fractures, or worn incisal edges
· Contraindicated for severe bruxism, insufficient enamel, or large existing restorations
Current Clinical Relevance (2025)
· Lithium disilicate (e.g., Ivoclar e.max) dominates the porcelain veneer market due to high strength and translucency.
· CAD/CAM veneers are preferred for single-visit treatment, but lab-fabricated feldspathic veneers still offer superior aesthetics (higher translucency, less opacity).
· Composite direct veneers are best for low-cost, repairable, and reversible treatment (enamel-preserving).
